Sitework items to identify

Separate shared site work from each building and identify any areas excluded from the bid. Clearing, trenching and aggregate work may need different measurement units and boundaries.

What cut and fill requires

Provide existing and proposed elevations, contours or other usable grading information, grading limits and the relevant sections. Identify the elevation datum and applicable pavement, slab or topsoil depths. Missing levels are requested rather than guessed.

Keep volume bases consistent

Excavation in place, loose haul material and compacted fill are different quantity bases. Any shrink, swell, stripping, import/export or compaction assumptions must be stated and agreed. Do not compare totals until they use the same basis.

Utilities and boundaries matter

For trench-related requests, include routes, sizes, sections and utility details. Confirm who covers underground piping, electrical conduits, bedding and restoration so quantities and charges do not overlap across trades.

Your agreed deliverables

Your quote defines the included site items, drawing coverage, quantity basis and exclusions. The agreed package includes highlighted scope drawings, quantity schedules and notes. This is estimating support; it does not establish a survey, engineered grading design or a construction-ready surface model.

Common scope questions

Can a floor plan establish cut and fill?

No. Existing and proposed elevations, grading boundaries and a defined quantity basis are required. Missing levels are requested before the scope is accepted.

Can underground work be included?

Request the specific trench, bedding, utility or restoration items. Routes, depths, sections and trade boundaries need confirmation so work is not counted twice.
